Do More Art
When the days get short, stay home and get creative
This time of year when the days are so short, it's hard to pack everything we want to do into a day. Rather than fight this natural rhythm, I encourage you to embrace the night.
Is there something in the slow and quiet part of yourself that could use nurturing?
Can you rest more?
Learn a new craft or return to a hobby?
Tidy or fix something?
A big part of my winter rhythm is doing more art.
Using our creative self is something that I always encourage in my clients because what we create is a big part of brining our unique gifts into the world. It's about using all our parts, letting ourselves be seen, letting energy move, it's about composting and beauty and making mistakes.
If you're skeptical that being creative is important, or you feel that you haven't made enough time for it lately, here are a few ideas:
Cook a new dish
Paint what you see out your window
Write daily
Go somewhere that inspires you
Bring a sketch book on a walk
Practice a musical instrument
The best thing about being creative is there's no wrong way to do it, the possibilities are literally endless.
It can be easy to fall into routines and not see the beauty of our day to day lives. A few resources on how to stay inspired and get creative are:

Austin Kleon: The Art of Imperfection (blog post)

Happy creating, and wishing everyone a peaceful and joyous solstice!
